Imagine embarking on the adventure of a lifetime—a 3-day journey with amazing people from around the globe, exploring the most breathtaking islands in the Philippines. With the Coron to El Nido expedition, this once-in-a-lifetime experience can become your reality. Get ready to dive into paradise and uncover all the details in this post!
What is the Coron to El Nido Expedition?
The Coron to El Nido expedition is an island-hopping tour that takes you to a wide range of islands located between the two towns—places you would hardly be able to visit otherwise.
The tour typically lasts 3 days and 2 nights, during which you’ll spend each day exploring pristine beaches and snorkeling spots along the way. Each evening, you’ll sleep at a campsite located on one of the islands.
The route can also be done in the opposite direction (from El Nido to Coron), but expect it to be slightly busier as it’s the more popular choice among travelers. While the 3-day expedition is the most common, 4-day tours are also available.
There are several companies offering these tours, but we decided to go with Keelooma, as it’s one of the best and most reputable options. In this post, you will find everything you need to know about this 3-day adventure.

Why Choose the 3-Day Coron to El Nido Expedition?
There are several reasons why we highly recommend joining a 3-day expedition instead of doing the day trips from Coron or El Nido.
First, the expedition takes you to different places compared to the typical day tours. The only exception is the “White Beaches” tour from Coron, which overlaps with the first stop on the 3-day expedition. However, by joining the expedition, you can easily skip that day tour and save both money and time.
The 3-day tour doesn’t include any stops at Coron Island, so it won’t overlap with the day trips you can take while in Coron, such as the Ultimate Tour. The same applies to the day trips from El Nido.
Secondly, the Coron to El Nido expedition allows you to discover pristine, remote, and non-touristy islands off the coast of Linapacan that are difficult to reach otherwise. Additionally, staying overnight on local islands is a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
Lastly, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Most travelers describe the Coron to El Nido expedition as their best memory of the Philippines. The friendships you form over those 3 days often become even more valuable than the stunning places you visit.

What to Expect on the 3D2N Coron to El Nido Expedition
In this chapter, we’ll explore the details of the 3-day expedition from Coron to El Nido.
It’s worth noting that the stops and campsites can change from one expedition to another, even when going with the same company and doing the same route. Depending on the day, you might visit varying beaches and stay at different campsites.
These differences become even more noticeable if you opt for a different tour operator, so your experience may vary.
Day 1: Setting Sail and First Stops
The meeting point for the 3-day expedition from Coron to El Nido was Coron Port at 8 AM. Getting there is easy—you can take a tricycle from Coron town for less than 100 PHP ($1.60 USD).
At the port, the Keelooma staff warmly welcomed us and guided us to the waiting area. After completing security checks, we boarded the boat, where our tour guide, Jann Jann, briefed us on the expedition details. Once we got the green light from the coast guard, our adventure officially began.

Ditaytayan Sandbar
After a couple of hours sailing, we arrived at our first stop of Day 1: Ditaytayan Sandbar. This breathtaking location is also a popular stop for day trips from Coron. We stayed for about 45 minutes, during which we could snorkel, stroll along the sandbar, take photos, or simply relax.
DID YOU KNOW? Sandbars are formed by currents flowing in opposite directions. Over time, the sandbar shifts slightly depending on which current is stronger, but it always remains present.

Lunch was served on board, and for the first time on this trip, we got to dig into the amazing food made by the Keelooma crew.
We enjoyed a selection of shrimp, pasta, vegetable curry, chicken adobo, sautéed green beans, rice, fresh fruit, and more! Everything was freshly cooked right at the back of the boat, and the flavors were even better with the ocean all around us!

Ditaytayan Longbeach
Our second stop was also on Ditaytayan Island, just a few minutes away. Unlike the sandbar, this spot was completely deserted—a sign that from here on, we’d be exploring places beyond the reach of daily tours.
Ditaytayan Long Beach was simply stunning, and we had the entire area to ourselves. What makes this spot truly special is the short hike through the forest that leads to another long beach on the opposite side of the island. We did the hike barefoot, but take care to watch where you step!
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-5364-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)

Snorkeling at Dipalin
The third stop was a snorkeling location named Dipalin. The waters here were crystal clear, revealing vibrant coral reefs and plenty of tropical fish. We spent about 40 minutes exploring the underwater world, swimming alongside schools of fish and admiring the colorful marine life. It was the perfect spot to relax and connect with nature.

Araw Camp (Culion Island)
We ended Day 1 by anchoring our boat in front of Araw Camp, our home for the night, located on the southernmost tip of Culion Island.
Typically, there are no piers on these small islands, so the only way to reach the shore is by swimming or getting a lift on a kayak. Your bags are transported by kayak as well, and the Keelooma crew takes care of everything for you.
The bungalows at Araw Camp were stunning, offering a sense of freedom and connection to nature. Positioned right by the ocean, they provided one of the most breathtaking views to wake up to. They are assigned by drawing to ensure fairness, so it’s a matter of luck to get the best ones.

Araw Camp is one of the newest additions to the Keelooma campsite list, and we were lucky to experience it firsthand. With its laid-back vibe and beautiful beachfront setting, it was the perfect spot to wind down after an epic day on the water!
We had plenty of time to play beach volleyball, enjoy the sunset, freshen up with a shower, and prepare for the happy hour.
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-5506-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)

Shortly after, dinner was served, and Chef Thomas thoughtfully explained each dish. It’s truly impressive how abundant and diverse these meals were, especially given the small kitchen and limited resources available.
Everything was exceptional, and we ended the night playing games and chatting together, making it a perfect close to an unforgettable first day.

Day 2: Exploring Remote Islands of Linapacan
The next morning, it was time to say goodbye to the beautiful Araw Camp and get back on board. But first, we needed a solid breakfast, and the Keelooma crew had us covered.
We dug into a spread of eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit, rice, fried bananas, and more—exactly what we needed before another day on the water.
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-5682-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)

Inapupan Coral Garden
One of the highlights of the second day was snorkeling at Inapupan Coral Garden, located in Linapacan. This spot was a true underwater paradise, featuring an incredible variety of coral formations in all shapes and colors. The water was crystal clear, allowing us to admire the vibrant reef and marine life even from above.
We spent about an hour here, swimming alongside schools of tropical fish, spotting unique coral species, and soaking in the untouched beauty of this hidden gem. It was a peaceful and magical experience, showcasing the pristine nature that Linapacan is known for.

Cagdanao Island
Our second stop for the day was Cagdanao Island, where we found several beach volleyball courts and some of the clearest waters we’d seen.
If pristine, untouched islands are a primary reason people join the 3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition, Cagdanao Island certainly plays a significant role in this.
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-5875-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)

Although we shared the island with a boat from another company, it never felt crowded. Cagdanao Island is quite large, and we had plenty of space to enjoy ourselves. We had a blast challenging each other to beach volleyball matches, especially when some members of the crew joined in on the fun.
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-21-1.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)

This stunning location also served as our lunch stop, and the Keelooma staff went the extra mile to set up lunch on the island rather than on the boat, making the experience even more special.
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-5921.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)

Cobra Island
Our third stop of the day was Cobra Island, a spot where you could either snorkel or just chill at the beach. We pulled up to a small stretch of sand, surrounded by crystal-clear water and peaceful vibes.
Some of us jumped straight into the water with our snorkels, eager to check out the reef. Just a few meters off the shore, the underwater world was full of life—colorful corals, schools of fish, and the occasional sea star chilling on the ocean floor.

Calibangbongan Island Camp
Getting to Calibangbongan at golden hour was an unforgettable experience. The palm trees seemed to glow in the warm hues of the sunset as we anchored our boat in the calm waters of the bay.
The seabed was dotted with large starfish, and we couldn’t resist taking one last swim before heading to the shore, soaking in the peaceful beauty of the moment.
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-6166.jpg?resize=1024%2C683&ssl=1)

Calibangbongan Campsite is impressive. It’s set on a small stretch of sand with beaches on both sides, offering stunning views all around. The water is calm and clear, perfect for a swim or just relaxing.
The camp itself is huge, with plenty of space, making it ideal for large groups to gather and enjoy the surroundings.
![3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition - 3D2N El Nido to Coron Expedition - coron el nido expedition - boat el nido coron](https://i0.wp.com/backpackersintheworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Coron-to-El-Nido-Expedition-Keelooma-39.jpg?resize=1024%2C576&ssl=1)
While both the island and the campsite were perfect, what we appreciated even more was the close proximity to Calibangbongan Village, which we explored the next morning. It’s not every day you get to connect with people living in such remote places and have authentic, meaningful interactions with them. It really added something extra to the whole experience.
We played basketball with the kids at the local court, and before dinner, we had the chance to attend a local dance show organized by Keelooma. It was great to see the kids having fun dancing routines that were both traditional and modern. We even got the chance to join in on the last dance.

Dinner, once again, was outstanding and extremely tasty. The variety of the dishes offered daily by the cooking staff at Keelooma was impressive. We ended the night with a karaoke session with the members of the expedition.

Day 3: The Journey to El Nido
Calibangbongan Village
Right after breakfast, some of us decided to venture explore Calibangbongan Village, which is home to less than a thousand people.
Life in Calibangbongan Village is simple, slow-paced, and deeply connected to nature. The village is small, with a tight-knit community that primarily depends on fishing, farming, and traditional practices for their livelihoods.
We visited the local basketball court, where just a few kids were playing. While it was quiet at that moment, the court is usually the town’s central gathering spot, hosting events and bringing the community together.

We also stopped by the nearby elementary school, where the atmosphere was calm, with children going about their day.
Finally, we made our way to the northern beach, a peaceful spot where locals often relax and fish, enjoying the tranquil environment to unwind.

Tacling Island
Tacling Island is located right behind Calibangbongan and is known for its pristine waters and gorgeous sandbar. Sadly, we were unlucky with the weather, and it started raining as soon as we approached.
The weather in the Philippines can be unpredictable, but it changes quickly, so don’t lose hope when the sky turns dark.
Paru-Paru Snorkeling
Our second stop was Paru Paru, a beautiful snorkeling spot on the way to El Nido. The water here is crystal clear, perfect for exploring the vibrant coral reefs below.
You’ll see tons of colorful fish and marine life, making it an amazing spot for anyone who loves to snorkel. It’s peaceful and full of life—definitely an unforgettable experience.

Daracuton Shipwreck
The last stop of our 3-day adventure was Daracuton Shipwreck, in front of Darocotan Island. This is a unique snorkeling spot where you can swim around a sunken shipwreck! If you look carefully, you can see a dark spot in the water where the wreck is
What makes this snorkeling spot especially enjoyable is that the shipwreck is shallow, making it easy to explore while snorkeling. Additionally, the site is rich in vibrant corals and marine life, enhancing the experience.

Dance Show & Transfer to El Nido
Reaching San Fernando Roro Port in Dipnay meant the end of our 3D2N Coron to El Nido expedition. We grabbed our bags, hopped off the boat, and said goodbye to the amazing crew who had taken such great care of us along the way.
On land, another dance show was waiting for us! Keelooma arranged a performance of both Maglalatik and Tinikling.
Maglalatik is a traditional folk dance where dancers strap coconut shell halves to their hands, chest, back, and thighs, then rhythmically strike them together in a fast-paced, battle-like performance. It originally depicted a fight over coconut meat between Moro and Christian Filipinos but is now performed as a cultural showcase.
Tinikling, on the other hand, involves dancers skillfully stepping in and out of two bamboo poles that are rhythmically clapped together. It originates from the Visayas but is popular across the Philippines, including Palawan. The dance mimics the movement of the tikling bird as it dodges bamboo traps set by farmers.

After our dance performance, it was time to hop on our jeepney and head toward El Nido. Jeepneys are iconic Filipino vehicles, originally repurposed from U.S. military jeeps after World War II, are now a staple of public transportation in the country.
They have an elongated body with two long bench seats facing each other, small windows, and a low ceiling. Often decorated with bright colors, religious symbols, and flashy stickers, jeepneys are a unique and vibrant part of Filipino culture.

What to Pack for the Coron to El Nido Expedition
On a 3D2N Coron to El Nido Expedition, you’ll need to store your large backpack at the start of the trip. While you can access it, it will only be available at specific times toward the end of the day, so make sure you don’t pack anything you’ll need during the day inside it.
Everything else should be packed in a smaller bag, which you can keep on the boat, as well as in a dry bag. These are the bags you’ll take with you to the campsites at night, while your large backpack remains stored on the boat.

Packing Essentials
Packing right can make all the difference on a trip like this, and Keeloma has a solid list of essentials to bring along.
- To keep your gear dry, a dry bag is a must, especially for boat rides and beach stops.
- You’ll be spending a lot of time in the water, so don’t forget your beach and swimming attire, along with sunglasses, sunscreen, a beach hat, and a towel to keep comfortable under the sun.
- A light scarf or sarong comes in handy for extra sun protection or as a cover-up when needed. Sun can be extremely strong on the expedition, so consider having a long-sleeve top if your skin is sensitive.
For evenings, bring something warm like long pants and a long-sleeve top—nights on the boat can get breezy. We didn’t find them necessary in our trip, but it’s good to be prepared.
- Flip-flops and reef shoes are perfect for hopping between beaches and exploring rocky areas.
- A flashlight is not strictly necessary, but it can be useful, especially at night or in the tents.
- There aren’t many mosquitoes, but bringing mosquito spray or patches will help keep them away.
- Don’t forget something comfortable to sleep in—whether it’s a light blanket, a sleeping liner, or just cozy pajamas. Pack that in a small backpack that you will carry with you to the campsite, alongside your phone charger, power bank, toiletries and everything else you need.
- And finally, bring a good book to enjoy during those peaceful moments on the boat, soaking in the ocean breeze.
With these essentials, you’ll be well-prepared to enjoy every part of the adventure, from sun-soaked days to starlit nights on the water.

Best Time to Go on the Coron to El Nido Expedition
When planning the 3D2N Coron to El Nido Expedition, it’s important to consider the weather and the seasons to ensure the best experience. Palawan, where both Coron and El Nido are located, enjoys a tropical climate with two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season.
Dry Season (December to May)
The dry season, running from late December to May, is the most favorable time for the 3D2N Coron to El Nido Expedition. This is when the weather is generally sunny and pleasant, perfect for outdoor activities like snorkeling, island hopping, and beach explorations. During this period, temperatures typically range between 75°F and 84°F (24°C to 29°C), and the cooler mornings and evenings provide a welcome break from the heat.
The Amihan or Northeast Monsoon prevails, bringing moderate temperatures and little to no rainfall. However, the winds can stir up slightly wavier seas compared to the dry season, so while the boat rides may have some movement, they are still manageable.
Wet Season (June to November)
During the wet season (June to November), be prepared for hot and humid weather, along with frequent heavy rainfall. The Habagat or Southwest Monsoon dominates during this period, bringing rain showers and higher humidity levels, which can make outdoor activities less enjoyable.
While Palawan generally remains typhoon-free, occasional storms may occur, especially from July to September, which could affect the visibility for snorkeling and island hopping.
Note: Most companies only operate during the dry season.

How to Choose the Best Tour Operator
The Coron to El Nido Expedition is big business, and tons of companies have popped up recently offering the experience. Choosing a reliable tour operator can make all the difference between an amazing trip and a disaster.
We’ve had friends who picked a random operator off the streets of Coron, only to have their trip canceled on the day of departure while others were still going. Make sure to do your research, read reviews, and stick with a trustworthy operator.
Factors to Consider
- Reputation and Reviews: Look for a tour operator with a strong reputation and positive reviews from previous travelers. This will give you confidence in the quality of the experience.
- Inclusions (e.g., food, equipment, guides): Make sure you know what’s included in the tour—such as meals, equipment, and the expertise of the guides—so there are no surprises along the way.
- Group Size and Vibe: Consider the group size and overall vibe of the operator. Smaller groups tend to offer a more intimate experience, while larger groups may feel more social or lively.
Why We Chose Keelooma
- Personal Experience with the Operator: After researching different options and reading glowing reviews, we decided to go with Keelooma based on their reputation for excellent service and well-organized tours.
- Best Islands and Campsites: Different companies have exclusive access to various island spots and campsites. Keelooma offers some of the best, arguably second only to Tao (which is twice the price), when it comes to stunning campsites and island stops.
- Highlights of the Company’s Service: Keelooma impressed us with their attention to detail, professional guides, and commitment to ensuring an unforgettable experience. Their personalized approach and care for every aspect of the trip made all the difference.
